nobody is being swindled by the hypodermic needle industry, they're being told how not to get aids.

please do not reuse sharps no matter who tells you its "safe." wtf

subtoot, medical

@twisted Um, so. I agree wholeheartedly with your first statement.

But a) disposable sharps weren't always and may not always be an option, b) reusing *your **own,** sterilized, never-shared* sharps isn't going to give you anything, c) preparing for a future where disposables aren't available includes learning & disseminating best practices for safe reuse.

Access to disposables is a privilege; not everyone has it.

@Fishercat the only issue i have with your addendum is that hypodermic needles dull with use and cleaning, and that air isn't sterile in almost every environment. you raise good points, and i can attest personally to the inaccessibility of disposable needles. reuse is sometimes necessary. but there isn't really a way to make it safe currently

@twisted I'm not suggesting that reused needles don't get dull, or that they stay sterile once out of the solution that gets them that way. I do think presenting a cautionary binary choice between dirty needles and new disposables is misleading, and far less useful than sharing best practices for reuse when necessary. Perhaps you'd be more comfortable with "safer reuse."
