I'm going to make a very economic focused observation for those of us selling stuff because there seems to be a small uptick in my local bubble of folks not doing alt text:
Lots, and lots, and lots of people have visual impairments but still are horny fuckers. They might not be able to see anything, or all the fine details, but you are depriving yourself of a fairly broad audience if you don't include alt text. It's just bad business. Include alt text and make it fun. I promise it can even be fun for you, I know it has been for me.
I'm not out to nanny anyone, or even necessarily sway people. Call this one of those me-specific autistic things where I have trouble accepting the mental model that leads to people not alt texting their stuff.

@amy yeah people can be lazy in a way that is almost a turn off compared to the image. I just see some text that's just "me naked" or something. Give me a fucking guided tour of what I'm looking at instead, it can be really hot and empowering and even help guide your audience to refer to you in terms you find hot and rewarding.

I often have deferred posting if I know I don't have the energy to do alt text very well.
