Today is one of those days. Someone inflicted a curse upon me to get the weirdest computer problems in existence

I removed an old HDD and put a new one in my computer. And another HDD is somehow... hijacking? the mount point of the new HDD???

This must be a bug in Gnome Disks or whatever. I cannot explain it

computer curse

The existing 4 TB Western Digital HDD is configured to mount at /media/Multimedia/

The new 16 TB Western Digital HDD is configured to mount at /media/Sweet/

But somehow, the 4 TB HDD mounts at both /media/Multimedia/ AND /media/Sweet/

This means the 16 TB HDD cannot be mounted at boot and it gets relegated to being mounted at /run/media/myusername/Sweet/ after you click on it in the file manager

computer curse

I created a new alternative mount point for the 16 TB disk and that works. But the 4 TB one is still mounted at both mount points and it Should Not Be

@schratze are you sure that some partition UUIDs are not identical somewhere? what does blkid say? (and maybe findmnt)

trying to help, re: computer curse

@confusomu thanks! It turns out it was a duplicate entry in fstab. I removed the line and it works now

@schratze very cursed that this constitutes a valid fstab file. However I could see how failing out in the mounting disks phase of startup is probably not preferable..
