Linux question (USB boot device)

I'm trying to boot my partner's PC from a USB live disk. But the computer won't recognize the USB device at boot.

I have inserted a USB SSD and two different USB thumb drives at different ports on the computer. But none of them show up in the boot menu or in UEFI.

Does anyone have an idea how to troubleshoot this?

Linux question (USB boot device)

The computer recognizes at least two of the devices when it's booted up. I have successfully opened the live medium boot menu on my laptop after attaching the SSD to it.

So the problem seems to be that the computer does not recognize USB storage media at bootup.

It does recognize the keyboard and mouse though, otherwise I would not be able to open the boot menu or UEFI.

Tried creating a GPT-compatible live medium, and that actually gets recognized, so that seems to have been the problem. I can get to the grub installed on the live disk.

But now while trying to boot from that, a file system error is detected and I can't actually get into the live disk
