Linux question (USB boot device)

I'm trying to boot my partner's PC from a USB live disk. But the computer won't recognize the USB device at boot.

I have inserted a USB SSD and two different USB thumb drives at different ports on the computer. But none of them show up in the boot menu or in UEFI.

Does anyone have an idea how to troubleshoot this?

Linux question (USB boot device)

The computer recognizes at least two of the devices when it's booted up. I have successfully opened the live medium boot menu on my laptop after attaching the SSD to it.

So the problem seems to be that the computer does not recognize USB storage media at bootup.

It does recognize the keyboard and mouse though, otherwise I would not be able to open the boot menu or UEFI.

@schratze some motherboards have a BIOS setting which disables most USB port functionality until after the BIOS startup phase in order to "save power". That can cause things like this to happen. Sometimes it is also billed as making your computer "boot faster", comes under many names. May wanna look for something like that which needs to be shut off.
