Fucking wild that YouTube will try suggesting autocaptions on videos that already have legitimate closed captioning. Why even bother wasting compute and electricity on generating them?
@thufie tbf a lot of people will uploaded the video before they add captions, and it's when the video is uploaded that the captions get generated
like you can tell that captions are only generated once because you can see the changes in the captioning code by watching different videos throughout the years
and while I do agree it's a waste, some people make captions so shit you need the autocaptions anyway, which… yeah ><
@clarfonthey yeah, but I do care about my captions and I upload them before YouTube finishes transcoding my video anyways. Really the biggest surprise is just that autocaptions get priority, and I can"t override that as the uploader.

it's especially garbage when the system is literally that only English and English (Australia) captions have priority over English (auto-generated) because it comes first alphabetically, whereas English (anything else) does not
