Musings about opsec discussions in activism

I notice a lot of digital security / safety culture that you see in zines and anarchist spaces and whatnot tend to throw people wayyyy into the deep end way too quickly

I don't think most activists realistically need to be taught how to use Tails OS and GrapheneOS (and they never will use them).

From personal experience most activists just need to be taught how to use Signal lmao

(Also for the love of god can these zines please stop recommending XMPP over Signal I know it's very decentralised but it has laughable metadata protections)

@mossfet recommending the thing that doesn't let you delete messages by default is a very "opsec guy" kind of advice.

@mossfet yeah, you have to trust the server to implement optional and non-default protocol extensions for basically anything and everything. Very weird model for something pitched as "secure".
