Windows woes
@Byte rufus has a toggle when writing a Windows install disk to toggle allowing it on non-internal disks ("To-go" in windows parlance). So I am guessing by allowing that possibility, it will install to itself (the installer usb) automatically if no other ntfs disks are detected. I am surprised it works and it didn't corrupt itself or something.
Windows woes

Windows woes
@thufie real
Anyways when I copied the {Documents, Pictures, Videos, Music} folders from %userprofile% to $HOME, and copied the relevant directories for Steam, I already had 99% of what I wanted. So I was set.
Anything else could be redownloaded quickly enough to not matter.
Windows woes
@thufie ah. I had an existing Windows install, so that useful tool was less applicable
