Someone told me btrfs compression can actually speed things up? And then explained it to me? But I literally can't believe it? How the fuck?

Doesn't compression always slow things down because the CPU has to then decompress the data!?!?

Also that you can switch from ext4 to btrfs in place without formatting the drive!?!?!?!?

@hazelnot don't place too much trust in the in-place conversion even the docs for the btrfs tools themselves say to not trust it with crucial data.

BTrees really are amazing though.
