Apparently you have to use a 3rd-party tool called Rufus that is Windows-only to create a 'Windows To Go' install on any non-MS approved external drive. The official windows install mediums themselves will all just refuse if they detect a drive attached over USB. Unfortunately this is a my passport drive so I can't just shuck it to get a SATA connection, so I had to setup a Windows VM just to use Rufus, to install Windows.

@reese The only difference we've noticed with "Windows To Go" is that is breaks the pirate Windows pre-activation. So you get the naggy thingy to "Activate Windows".
