@lunalapin my only objection is that HTML is a superset of XML which doesn't require closing tags. Otherwise it would make perfect sense.

@thufie oh yeah i am apparently just wrong, it's backwards, xml is based on html

@thufie though to be fair unclosed tags is sort of a feature that the standard has waffled on back and forth repeatedly before landing where we are rn

@thufie no im wrong a second time apparently. HTML and XML were simultaneously developed based on SGML i guess. damn, that was 40 years ago. also i barely slept last night lol

@lunalapin I only know this because as an XML implementer, and someone who wrote some RSS stuff once... Seeing how many web devs don't bother closing their tags really irritates me. My personal webpages leave none unclosed, but I've seen some dirty tricks with pages that didn't even close a single tag...
