I still think hotdog / not hotdog was the best demo of useful applied machine learning and nothing of note has happened since. Every other application besides image classification has a better applied solution without machine learning.

It is no coincidence that the presentations on how to make ChatGPT solve a classic pathfinding problem don't bother including a fucking asymptotic analysis. May as well be burning fuel to smoke out a GPD-dependent uber driver who you spun into dizziness on a pottery wheel, that's not a function which returns with any guarantees of correctness, let alone performance.
