@uint8_t@chaos.social That happened to me with a cable that was pressed against a wall for a long time. It was a lot faster once I crimped a new end on it.
@Murkrow Yeah, I remember that from my computer I had as a kid. Pre ATX power supplies couldn't be told to shut off via software.

Someone brought in a new thinkpad x62 for us to repair at work. It's an old thinkpad x61 with a custom motherboard that has a 5th gen intel CPU, support for NVME storage, a high resolution screen hacked in, etc. The form factor, keyboard, and build quality of the x61 are great, but it came with a core 2 duo.
The seller sent him one with a beat up case, so he bought a new x61 case and he's having us install it.
The cable for the modded display looks very fragile, they used individual wires for the connection. They also soldered the speaker wires to the connector.

@AugierLe42e @Zoidtes@mastodon.social Circumcision was introduced to the US in the late 1800s as a way to punish boys for masturbating. The other arguments for it came later, after it was already widespread.
When I asked my parents, they said that part of the reason they circumcised me was because it was in the bible. They thought that it had to have some sort of health benefit if it was commanded in the old testament. Most Christians in the world don't circumcise, Galatians 5 even says that circumcision severs you from Christ.
Only a consenting adult should be able to choose to have parts of their genitals cut off. All children need to be protected from genital cutting, whether they are male,, female, or intersex.

There is no requirement in the US to record or report botched circumcisions. I was circumcised so tight that my skin would sometimes tear and bleed when puberty started. Restoring my foreskin has helped a lot with that.

old tech and how it is still important
computer tech from the 1980s is still everywhere, hiding behind the scenes in everything we do, and isn't going away anytime soon
the faa uses 386 and 486 at clones running from floppies to control airplane runway lighting
that i know of, both 3.5" and 5.25" floppies are also used in textile manufacturing, as well as metal machining for aircraft parts. the most accurate cnc machines still use these and use custom interfaces, so floppy emulators aren't an option
