A woman in Kentucky from a strict christian family had her genitals mutilated along with her sister when she was 5 years old almost 40 years ago.

Cutting the genitals of children before they can consent is wrong.

Last November, a judge ruled that the 1996 federal law banning Female Genital Mutilation in the US was unconstitutional, in part because it did not protect all sexes equally, and because it did not fall under the Necessary and Proper Clause or the Commerce Clause of the constitution. Female Genital Mutilation in the US 

Currently, there are 21 states that have no law against FGM, only California has a law restricting intersex genital mutilation, and there are no laws against male genital mutilation. All children need to be protected from genital cutting without consent, whether they are male, female, or intersex.
