@June@kitty.town 💙

Thanks for the story.

@June@kitty.town that sounds really difficult. It's a shame when places that were kinda cool get shitty.

@June@kitty.town is there a write up you'd suggest to get context here? It's been a long time since metafilter crossed my screen and I get the impression that there's a lot of this story I'm missing.

'The Celtics' and facist lack of imagination

I do find the link between facist thought and lack of imagination and creativity facinating.
The Celtics is a great example of this in action. There's utterly no creative energy in it. It's literally regurgitated propaganda skinned in bad Celtic stereotypes.

And this isn't 'only stupid people are facist'
This is because facist ideology discourages anything outside of rigid, categorised thought as a threat. So only easily quantifiable art is acceptable and anything more experimental breaks out of that mindset.
It's why facist movements only want to claim classic art forms, because they don't have to recon or engage with them.

like, i'm fucking burnt out as fuck and exhausted of working but that's not because i don't want to participate in my community/labor for my community, it's because there has been a deliberate effort on behalf of capitalism to completely divorce the average person from their community.

if we had any capacity to build and strengthen our communities we would have so much more capacity and passion for life.

if i had medical care, unlimited access to a communal dining hall, and free room and board i would happily spend 30hrs/week laboring for my community however they needed support.

realistically 30hrs/week is probably double what would be needed. imagine how much more efficient that labor would be without capitalist middlemen stealing 99% of said labor's value.

the only barriers to this future are a) the leeches b) the bootlickers and c) the doomers.

How to pet the dog - a guide

So one thing I’ve noticed is some people I meet while with my dog don’t know how to pet dogs in a safe way that respects dog and owners boundaries.

So I’m going to make a thread on what to do if you want to pet the dog.

re: PH & gender

@erosdiscordia I get upset when my thinking feels muddy, too. (estrogen person here) I just don't get, like, aggressively upset. I could maybe see, some testosterone reason for being sick making T folks angry, though.

If a family gets hurt by a predator attack and half the adults go somewhere safer and half the adults get aggressive, you might have a better chance of someone surviving? So like, maybe it's less of a 'this exact reaction' thing than a 'a sex difference makes sense here' kinda thing.

Also, I think people say men are tough/have high pain tolerance because men really like to hear it. Maybe Prarie Home Companion got something right after all. 😛

Most testosterone folks don't need to be down to fuck after the incredible pain of childbirth, so like, there's maybe less of a strong need for that kind of pain tolerance with T? Just a thought.

I hope gibs feels better, though.

Hi all: this account is in hybernation after #Gab functionally left the #fediverse, but wanted to wake it from slumber to note that all your work got noticed in a new ISD Report.

"There is precedent for open source communities to push back against those who seek to use their tools to promote hate speech. One such case is Mastodon, an open source social media community which has waged a long-running war of attrition against an influx of far-right users from Gab – a war which, as of December 2020, they appear to have won."

@sashakovich @keelancook

I found a copy of the later book, Proverbs of Ancient Sumer. If Otis any indication, it's appropriately rife with filth.

If you can find out where the original tablet lives now, perhaps mentioned in the forward, that would be an amazing lead.

@sam hey, this isn't quite the same thing, but if you weren't aware, cyberia.club has a bunch of similar infrastructure set up.

We're volunteer run, explicitly free, and not a capitalist entity really, but if you're looking for folks to buddy up with, you might be looking for us.

@cyberia in the context of pseudonym, key and identity management. For example, creating a new pseudonym identity in the system is called "pick a nym", and an public server for pseudonymous users may be called a "nym server".

It came from the original Cypherpunk mailing list in the 90s, there was a huge amount of discussions about privacy and anonymous communications here, thus this shorthand.

I need to find a good photo management thing.

I have emby for videos and music, kogma for comics, but between me and Felicity we have something like 100 gigs of photos.

I want something I can have on my server at home that has good sorting and management things for bulk photos and be available on the local network. External availability isn't as important.

any suggestions?

i don't know which is more surprising: that i just managed to spell "acknowledgements" correctly on the first try, or that that's actually how it's spelled
