rambling about art,

One thing I kind of realized today is that the biggest thing that makes it hard for me to draw is that I'm really bad at visualizing things, especially in three dimensions. Which isn't too surprising since that's a tough skill to get good at and I don't really have a lot of practice at it.

I think I should see if I can learn to make model characters to use as a reference, since I'm not too bad at drawing when I actually have a reference. I'm thinking something like claymation figures made from plasticine so they're posable. I don't want to wait to order all those materials for my current project, so maybe I can make paper models or something? I'm honestly not too sure if that'd would work, maybe I'll look around for other materials (suggestions welcome).

@montagsoup in case you didn't know, you can also buy wooden artist figure models that are posable and whatnot.

@starless I've thought about it and I should probably get one just to have around, but I guess my big worry about using one all the time is that it won't encourage me to make characters with their own proportions and body shapes.

@montagsoup that's fair. You can mark them up and use clay to build out a body type, too, but you're right, they can be kinda uniform.
