i dont know what terminal koreader is emulating but it certainly isnt one a lot of tui stuff agrees with
lynx still works tho and so does nano, so that makes me wonder whats going on behind the scenes

whatever I can probably just ssh from a more known terminal
the whole point is a slower more thoughtful computing flow
