I don't understand why everyone keeps boosting the "old online chats used to offer a status marker" post b/c

a) plenty of modern chat systems still do, including MS Teams and Discord

b) the reason they fell out of favor is that you never know if someone is actually in $status or if they haven't reset it from the last status
