thinking this morning about Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles' My Life as a Darklord
it was a 2009 wiiware tower building/defense title i grabbed the demo for at.. probably age 9 or 10? and i LOVED it, i hadn't played a game in its style before and the apparent depth in it had me really excited to try more

...but i was terrible at the demo, and was so ashamed to let my family know i would play it, just because it was all in a lolita girlish fantasy style - and you were playing as a girl, obviously. ten year old boys ~don't do that~. so to cover it up, i hid it at the far, far right side of our Wii's home menu, where the rest of my family wouldn't find it (at least, that was my perspective)

thinking about how i was so enthused by (and too, so ashamed of,) a game that let me play around in an evil scary girlish identity. that probably revealed a lot more about my brain than i thought. i probably would've also been hooked by Final Fantasy, something i've never really enjoyed since.

oh my god, i remember
i was too little to know what the words "offensive" and "defensive" meant, because i was probably too young for that vocab lol
no wonder i never got very far

Follow
