@gsuberland@chaos.social Ah, sounds like the same "airconditioners are wasteful luxury" culture as in NL...

@joepie91 @gsuberland I don't get it. people understand there's places in the US that get both very hot and very cold, but despite years of evidence Europe is still like "ah those lazy Americans, staying alive with their air conditioning". meanwhile air conditioning is more energy efficient than constantly running fans everywhere.

and then window units (which i begrudgingly accept) don't really exist because you can't really adapt them to European windows so instead you get these inefficient one hose monsters

@Lunaphied @gsuberland@chaos.social Honestly there's no excuse for the one-hose monsters being so dominant here anyway, there's no reason you can't make a two-hose portable unit

@gsuberland @joepie91 the two hose are better but like. still way sillier than just having the compressor outside and being able to move the cooled refrigerant inside and efficiency matters a lot here considering the smaller grid and more expensive electricity.

@gsuberland @joepie91 honestly what i predict the best solution will eventually be is whole building minimal ACs that cool the entire building to a livable level, potentially only running when powered by onsite solar and then individual AC becomes the "luxury". that's not what the US does but I feel like we'll never escape the European mind seeing cool temperatures as a luxury
