What terrifies me most about the "AI" hype isn't the damage that's currently being done, but what will happen once the billionaires finally realize that it's a dead-end hype and their billions have evaporated with no chance of recovery through the tech itself

@joepie91 Usually, they'll pay somebody to retaliate horribly against whoever they will think deceived them. With a little bit of luck, it'll be the peddlers of ChatGPT.

@riley The problem is that a lot of the funding from billionaires here is in co-ownership rather than eg. sales contracts, so there is no convenient wealthy pawn to shift responsibility onto

@joepie91 @riley that's why openai needs to go public before that happens, which I guess they can't because of their nonprofit status
