politics, journalism
@mynameistillian extremely true. here in the UK for instance, it took the combined forces of the blairite faction of labour, the conservative politicians and entire british media to stop corbyn from becoming PM. it took all of that to gaslight enough of the public into believing the anti-semitism smear
likewise, the absurd swell of transphobia here on terf island would not have been possible without the news media posting anti-trans articles *every day* for the last decade
politics, journalism
@mynameistillian honestly, i think the worst thing might be that when the far right complain about the corrupt and lying mainstream media, they're right. they believe it for mostly the wrong reasons of course, antisemitic conspiracy theories to cover for the media not reporting on their absurd beliefs as truth, but it's still evident for all to see that the MSM are lying propagandists. when you see that, who do you believe?
politics, journalism
@mynameistillian a lot of people fall into the trap of believing the people who most vocally speak out against the mainstream news, decry all reporting as fake, gives the easy or appealing narratives the person wants to hear
facts become meaningless. what, you believe what you read on the guardian? the bbc? you trust anything google tells you? the internet is now full of lies. ai slop. bullshit peddlers. truth becomes a matter of faction. what team are you on?
politics, journalism
@Yza @mynameistillian (Work that, incidentally, sounds an *awful* lot like what journalism is supposed to be on paper!)
