@colapunk @ChrisMayLA6 This is exactly it, as far as I can tell. It's the same dynamics as clickbait - sensation and provocation sell.
@vfrmedia @colapunk @ChrisMayLA6 This reminds me of the phenomenon where corpo lobbyists are overly trusted by journalists and politicians alike, merely because they have a phone number that you can call 24/7 and get a representative to speak to you, while eg. activist groups have no such thing

..which sometimes means that if you get your bold and well written press release about your demo or action to the journalist before the police does so, you can get your (not underestimated) numbers of people attending said demo or action to be the standard ;)

the right wing parties also have extensive resources to keep bombarding the media with not just press releases but pre-packed audio and video content, which time pressured journalists are likely to include without even looking at it that closely.
Consider that when Farage got milkshaked a few years back those who did it got fined for damaging a broadcast quality radio microphone he was wearing concealed behind his rosette. Although this could be in part a security arrangement (with his close protection listening in on the receiver), its more likely its providing high quality audio for a video crew shadowing him at all times..
