It's actually *really* weird that driver's licenses, specifically, are seen as a valid form of government ID in a lot of places.
@unlobito Thing is, in eg. NL, ID cards *are* very common... and driver's licenses are *still* a valid form of ID. And I have heard the same from other places that do national IDs.

imo this situation turbo sucks in .uk, where folks that are medically disqualified from driving effectively have to carry a passport as photo ID
at least most .us state DMVs will also issue non-driving entitlement IDs
