fedi meta
A pattern I keep seeing: some guy gets defederated, banned from their instance, or even just told "no" by people, for very good reason, and then spends month going around in every other social venue telling anyone who will listen about how "you can't say anything on Mastodon" without ever mentioning the reason for their grudge.
When asked for examples, they bring up their own situation, and misrepresent it as if the reason were something trivial and ridiculous, rather than the usually much more severe thing they've done and/or the pattern of shitty behaviour over a long time that they *actually* experienced consequences over.

@welshpixie i was mutuals with this guy on twitter who also came here around when there was a scare that twitter would be shutting down in the country or something some years back. he was kinda problematic and he used to say the same thing, lol

@peregrinator @joepie91 my header image is full of 'em, heh.
re: fedi meta
@joepie91 Honestly, I have seen this pattern since online communities have been a thing.
Just that these people usually complained in other communities or platforms, so it was harder to see.
re: fedi meta
@Vampire Yes and no. I've certainly seen a similar pattern many times in many places over the years, but I find the fedi version to be a little different - it seems to be much more intensive, with said people basically taking every opportunity to start complaining again.
You literally can't mention fedi in *any* context without them latching onto it and trying to turn the conversation into their personal rant. I've not seen that kind of behaviour, at least at this magnitude, for other social spaces. Isolated incidents of that, sure, but not as a structural pattern.
re: fedi meta
@joepie91 Fair. I still think this isn't new, just more visible as one can just make an account on a different instance and keep "participating" while in older community that person was just "gone".
re: fedi meta
@Vampire To clarify, the badmouthing I'm observing is in other spaces too, not on fedi.
re: fedi meta
@joepie91 Yes. I just focused on the incidents I've seen so far on fedi, as I'm not active in other spaces anymore.
fedi meta
@joepie91 That sounds like standard scumbag behaviour to me, that it happens to fedi as well is only logical.

@joepie91 of course it's always somebody else's fault. It's how we were raised: admit your fault and you get punished, deny and they don't have anything on you.
I know very few people who will admit they are wrong or did something wrong.
Although no one would shout from the rooftops that everybody else is wrong either. They would deny and hide until it blows over.
fedi meta
@joepie91 I noticed this! There was someone complaining about our instance on a forum or something, like "Why did they defederate me?" They rarely look at their own actions and behaviors.
