Perhaps the clearest indicator that the governance issues are not going to be resolved through discussions on the forum: the fact that for the past several years, you can reliably sort nearly every post into one of two 'camps' by looking at who hit the like button, and the exact lists for each camp have barely changed.

Likes aren't a reliable indicator for much, but it sure shows that minds are not being changed, and that it's a much more fundamental conflict that probably isn't going to be resolved until one camp just *leaves* the project.

Related observation: which camp a post gets sorted into seems to have much more to do with who made it, than with the actual contents of the post.

What is the governance issue in this particular case? I saw no disagreement for the name issue, it's pretty clear there. The flake question obviously isn't getting resolved in the thread, because it's neither in scope nor is it how you solve it. The ban suggestion is a nice idea as a threat/pressure, but the actual decision needs more arguments (also might want to keep the card for later)

@nobody All of the things you mention are just specific symptoms - the actual governance issue underlying all of these (and it is not the only governance issue either) is the constant stream of conflict-of-interest situations against which the project and community have effectively no defenses or mitigations.

It didn't start with DetSys either; there's a similar history with various other Nix consultancies.

@nobody (Another of the governance issues is how cozy a lot of people in the community are with military contractors and other murderers-for-hire; and again DetSys pops up here too)

Well that's not a governance issue. The extent and forms of their access to the common spaces is the governance issue

Well we're sure setting up the defense for the concrete symptom at hand, so that'll be at least one
