@theresnotime@fox.nexus I think that is true in some interpretations, but I also think that a lot (but not all) of that can be ascribed to people actually having room to air grievances and call out people being shitty.

When the dominant culture in pretty much all of society is "don't rock the boat" (with all the systemic discrimination and missing stairs that that results in), any kind of attempt at actually addressing conflicts head-on is going to be incredibly messy and seem very loud, not in the least because nobody involved grew up learning how to deal with this stuff in a healthy way.

@theresnotime@fox.nexus (There are certainly also technical factors playing a role, like the lack of remote reply fetching in many implementations resulting in people talking past each other and other people getting exhausted and irritable by getting the same replies a hundred times)
