I hear often the argument that we have lost the knowledge in the EU to be independent from the US. That is disinformation of big tech. All of their "innovation" is based on open source software, often written by public research institutions. When you visit #FOSDEM, you are literally at the hotspot of innovation. That knowledge is all around and open. We just need to pick it up and build our own economy around it.

@winfriedtilanus This is true, but when I have seen people speak about 'knowledge loss', it was usually not so much about the technical aspect of it, and more about the 'providing institutional services' part, basically the business/supplier side of things. That's the part that FOSS doesn't do!

Yes, agree. But looking at local 'integrators', I don't believe that knowledge is far away....
