LLMs, engaging with the arguments against my better judgment
@baldur "Things computers could obviously — obviously! — not do, computers can now do."
Except we've had Markov chains for decades and LLMs are, for all practical purposes, just Markov chains with a big memory and training set, so "computers could obviously not do this" was never actually true to begin with...
This is a rhetorical strategy I keep seeing in hype circles like blockchains and LLMs - posing the technology as disproving some historical stance that never actually existed until the hypecrowd declared that it did.
LLMs, engaging with the arguments against my better judgment
@joepie91 Yeah, that's the thing. Anybody who was paying attention to the field of ML would not be that surprised by how the field has developed.
