so uh, why do we keep forgetting that yeah, no, we can actually just make a purse with the exact specs we want
we have done sewing on bags often enough, we can probably pattern out the exact design we want, possibly over some iterations
getting hold of some of the plastic (or metal) fittings may be a mild pain, but not impossible
and yes, we know how to put in various fancy zippers
anyway, probably need to do some sketching at some point on a purse/belt/day pack for hacker events
only gotchas, our sewing machine is only so-so both in terms of control and ability to deal with heavier fabric (hand sewing is an ergonomic nightmare for us, but for some small bits where thickness is extreme like the belt attachment may be viable)
and we'd probably have to make it out of a cheap fabric first, or figure out how to more cheaply source nice fabrics, so there is that little frustration
