So what’s this like?

It’s like a souped up regional train

They’ve done the best they could with the interior. But it’s quite noisy, the ride a bit rocky. Lots of interior doors to keep noise levels down

It‘ll work, sure. But it’s a bit underwhelming

Accessibility - the wheelchair area is huge. The toilet also enormous, the door well designed. The step to bridge the gap to the platform didn’t work correctly - it went over the platform.

Seats & bike area like this will result conflicts

Amazing

Live running of Belgian trains is in DB Navigator.

Live running of Dutch trains too.

Live running of trains from Belgium to Netherlands isn’t 🤷‍♂️

Groningen has an amazing station hall. Once the track side renovations are done it’s going to be an excellent station overall!

So over a coffee ☕️ with @bennileemhuis in Groningen I now have an idea for a mini project for 2025 sometime.

When the Friesenbrücke finally re-opens to connect Groningen to Oldenburg #CrossBorderRail I’ll take it. But I’ll then also cycle the route of a future Lelylijn to better connect Groningen to Lelystad and Amsterdam nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lelylijn

Also Trein Posities is an amazing website using NS open data

Here’s my train:
treinposities.nl/ritinfo/20241

It uses GPS on board to plot speed. The route is mapped. It explains the type of rolling stock. Amazing tool!

1) It’s a ICE not a TGV. TGV is a SNCF trademark and this thing is a Deutsche Bahn train 😀

2) If one train a day - largely a politically symbolic gesture - shows appetite, then here’s a whole autobahn or autoroute full of traffic I have to show you

*we need more and better than this!*

@jon Aren't they just using "TGV" as an abbreviation there? IIRC it stands for "train grande vitesse" or so, ie. "high speed train".

· · Web · 1 · 0 · 1

@joepie91 SNCF has been sending lawyer’s letters to any rival using the term! Really!

@jon Huh. I wonder how enforceable that actually is.

@joepie91 enough to make life tricky for private rivals to SNCF. Probably not going to apply to Le Monde articles!

@jon @joepie91 here in the 🇺🇸, everyone calls any high speed train project — other than the existing East Coast D.C. to Boston corridor Acela, which barely qualifies — a bullet train… referencing the Japanese Shinkansen (since 1964).

TGV is more or less a brand name now, but still, a “train à grande vitesse” is literally any high speed train.
