when people who don't frequent the suggestions forum get their friends to reply "I agree with this suggestion" in a really clearly astroturf-y way do they think it makes their suggestion more likely to be implemented?

It's a forum, not a voting system.

@ben I mean, if you teach people that you get things done in life through a popularity vote... they're gonna be following that assumption for other things too
