bluesky

people on bluesky are weirdly emotionally invested in mastodon failing

re: bluesky

usually this is accompanied with a similar hostility towards cohost despite it already being in read-only mode prepping for shutdown. it's truly bizarre

re: bluesky

@eniko It feels like in the initial Twitter exodus there was a deliberate effort to making this place out to be some nightmare social media no one can make sense of. I feel it poisoned the well and it makes it hard to get most people past the initial hurdles.

This is not to say the Fediverse is perfect, but it's frustrating how quickly people embrace something doomed to fail by the same cause as the previous popular microblogging service. We really need to get people to unlearn this learned helplessness and empower themselves, it's affecting everything negatively.

re: bluesky

@igimenezblb if covid taught me anything it's that people are really attached to their emotional support learned helplessness

re: bluesky

@eniko @igimenezblb I don't think that's some kind of fundamental human nature though, rather a result of the experience people have had through their lives (which, let's be real, haven't exactly featured particularly much agency over the shape of their own lives)

tangent, re: bluesky

@eniko @igimenezblb Thinking about it a bit more, that's already kind of implied in the 'learned' part of 'learned helplessness' so I'm not really sure now where this apparently widespread belief of it being 'human nature' comes from 🤔
