Every time someone on fedi explains that lots of small instances "just doesn't scale" I smile and go "GOOD :BlobCatAngel: " in my head.

Is it a cool feature of fedi if it's expensive to have thousands and thousands of followers? Yep
Are there scaling problems for normal people who interact with a normal amount of people? Nope
Should we care? Nah

@joepie91 there's probably some degree of extremes to it. I don't think everyone should be on single user instances but if everyone were on tens to hundreds of user instances and that starts breaking down with a few thousand followers that seems like a success to me.

At the same time, the load my single user instances has pretty much always seemed neglible so I find it hard to imagine enough extra load that it would be a concern to my use case.
