call me an audiophile all you want but I am currently jamming out to FLACs of the vampire survivors soundtrack and am very happy that my desktop is capable of blasting lossless audio to my headphones over bluetooth, the shittiest of all wireless protocols

also something that supremely pisses me off is that not only is LDAC a proprietary codec, but despite literally being named the lossless digital audio codec, it is literally not lossless

it's maybe lossless, relying on the connection quality to determine how much it can send over the line

and while my desktop's chunky wireless antenna is capable of broadcasting the required bitrate just fine, my phone is definitely not

also my hot take is that lossless audio is best for chiptunes because the chonky audio has straight lines which are notoriously difficult to encode using discrete cosine transforms

it's like how JPEG is good for photos because of all the randomness in the data but absolute garbage for pixel art or pictures of text because of all the randomness that is not present

plus, unintuitively, straight lines actually carry a substantially larger signal depth over audio, since actually it takes an infinite number of frequencies to represent a perfectly straight line

I obviously cannot hear infinitely many frequencies, but I can at least hear the difference in depth between a bitcrushed square wave and an uncompressed one

@clarfonthey Isn't this why chiptunes often use specialized tracker formats?
