Seeking Chair Recs

So… i really need an office chair.

Several years ago, i bought a cheap one that lasted well enough, but… it's always been uncomfortable. The padding wore out instantly, and the lumbar support is just awful. I end up never doing work at my desk because my desk is just an uncomfortable place to spend time.

But chair shopping is also kind of /the worst/, especially on the contemporary AI-polluted, for-profit-blogs-masquerading-as-reviews internet. So… i was hoping folks here might have suggestions. In no particular order, here are my goals:

(1) Good lumbar (lower back) support
(2) Adjustable height
(3) A proper seat (i'm not a fan of the recent trend of creating seats that are merely a mesh netting without padding or a seat bottom beneath)
(4) A waterfall seat (i.e. the front of the seat cushion is rounded rather than squared off or set in a hard frame)
(5) No arms, or detachable arms/arms that need not be installed (not required, but preferred; i find arms just get in my way)
(6) A reasonable price. I know this is vague, but while i expect to spend ~hundreds of dollars, i can't afford thousands; i live… i guess one could say "very modestly" "^^

I don't care if it's called an "office chair," "computer chair," "task chair" or whatever (i'm not sure whether there's even an actual difference between these categories other than marketing); i just want something along these lines.

Suggestions are deeply appreciated, as are boosts. Thanks so much for reading, and thanks in advance for any help!

re: Seeking Chair Recs

@cephie Don't know if you're still looking, but I have an IKEA MARKUS chair and it ticks all of the boxes; I would say that it's the most comfortable such chair I've used (although imperfect), and after many years of use the padding has still not worn out. I'd actually say that the seat padding is a bit much sometimes, but not problematically so.

The standard casters suck; I replaced them with inline-skate-style casters a long time ago (note that these are third-party, and IKEA chairs have a non-standard stem size, so you need an IKEA-specific type). Though when the first set broke, they did replace the chair for me without complaint.

My main criticism would be that the (multi-point) seat recline locking mechanism is a bit janky; it loses accuracy over the years, and has a tendency to tilt the backside slightly in one direction when locked. I don't think most people would notice but I'm very fussy about that sort of thing :p
