@mcc @jik I still don't follow how adding another way to gather my personal data is a good move. Does this somehow stop the other ways my data is being gathered?

We all agree no data collected is better than anonymous data collected that is better than traceable data collected. What I don't get is how adding anonymous data collection tools will prevent the traceable data collection from happening.

@stags @mcc That's a great question! Here are 2 ways this can lead to better outcomes if it works:
1) If contextual ads actually produce better conversion rates than targeted, which (as others have pointed out in this thread) some of the research suggests, some advertisers will switch to it voluntarily because it's better.
2) Legislators who are unwilling to ban adtech entirely (i.e., pretty much all of them) may still be willing to mandate PPA or the equivalent.
