I grew up in a series of fairly extreme religious sects, including one full-blown very dopey cult, and maybe because of that, I failed for the longest time to understand that the same patterns that drive delusional cult behavior are not just present but pervasive in tech, business, ~politics, and most other sectors of society, including the sciences. It is SO GOOBERY and disappointing.💀

@kissane I feel like a collapse is in the near future, and I'll shed no tears for the techbros, but I don't know how severe or widespread the consequences will be.
@foolishowl It looks like the money guys are starting to turn on “AI” so yeah, sooner than later. I keep wondering what they’ll latch onto next, after the Web3/crypto, metaverse, and genAI debacles.
@kissane @foolishowl Having gone through all of those hype cycles (and a couple more smaller ones), I can't help noticing that the tech hype cycles keep getting shorter and wondering what happens when they approach zero.
