I don't know how anyone ever expected the 'linked web' to take off on the open web, with how dense and academically impenetrable all the resources around it are

@joepie91 well, an important problem besides the "documentation being difficult to understand" is that most actors/parties "in the game" are companies which are in strong competition to each other, and linked data stuff I've seen so far requires an amount of cooperation which is unlikely to come up naturally in such an environment.
And advertisement- and creepy data companies also disincentivise this for actually open, non-profit orgs, too.
And like, lots of the concepts behind it are great, and would genuinely be helpful to an open web! But you do actually need to *communicate* these things in a way that people can understand it
