@meena @joepie91 also how github effectively forced everyone to use the VCS that was made to off-load maintainer work onto contributors

@mia @meena If that was the goal, I don't think it actually does that - in practice, it seems to just create more work for maintainers by reviewing submissions of questionable quality from people who have no intention of sticking around, when just fixing the bug themselves would have been less work

@joepie91 I’d say the defining moment is when BitBucket gave up and defaulted to git for new repos. There were lots of good ideas in Mercurial and it really pushed git to be better. They don’t even support Mercurial anymore now.
