@x_screamodeath_x Here in the Netherlands I see that a lot of anarchists actually do that (shout out to @Ravotr and @Jo).
But not all unfortunately. And a few of them are for example against covid measures or even think that it's a conspiracy. I don't consider those people real anarchists, but right wing libertarians. Here I wrote why:
@joenepraat @x_screamodeath_x @Ravotr @Jo Unfortunately that largely hasn't translated into *actual* safety measures for COVID, though.
I'm still almost every time reading about an announcement for some nominally anarchist event, and then be unable to find any information whatsoever about what COVID precautions they have taken.
Or consider meetings; sure, hybrid meetings are a thing. But what if you can't do online meetings due to auditory processing issues, *and* also are particularly susceptible to COVID?
That would be me, and I continue to feel excluded from a lot that's going on. Ableism is still widespread, despite it being called out at times.
@joenepraat @x_screamodeath_x @Ravotr @Jo Oh, I know it's not specific to anarchist circles. But anarchists are the ones where this most obviously violates the stated ideology.
@joenepraat @x_screamodeath_x @Ravotr @Jo It's not just them, though, that's my point. I generally don't see this stuff being improved by the people talking about solidarity and mutual aid either.
@joepie91 It's always good to call-out peoples hypocrisy.
@joenepraat @joepie91 @x_screamodeath_x @Ravotr ... actually I am planning another article on the subject.. It's annoying and shameful.
@Jo Looking forward to it.
@joenepraat @joepie91 @x_screamodeath_x @Ravotr ..yeah, just gotta find the time to do it 😃
@Jo BTW: I'm also guilty for not wearing a mask all the time, when actually I should have. And yes, I took all my vaccinations, but still I'm just (cliche, I know) a human being. Even I as a proud weirdo am going with the flow sometimes. 😜 That being said, I think the responsibility rest mainly on the shoulders of the organizers of indoor (and crowdy outdoor) events. We all know which ones. I won't say names.
@joenepraat @Jo @joepie91 @Ravotr i actually think responsibility rests on everyone. As an anarchist, i dont wait for a leader to make things happen and i think we should promote personal responsibility.
@x_screamodeath_x Yes, I agree that responsibility rests on everyone. I also think that organizers of such events have the role to initiate those responsibilities by others. Not because they are leaders, but because they have the responsibility to take care of their guests.
@Jo @joenepraat @joepie91 @x_screamodeath_x @Ravotr i was thinking about this a few days ago about how we need a deprogramming course to address racism, sexism, ableism, etc as it does hold anarchism back.
@joepie91 Yes, that's correct. Unfortunately some 'anarchists' confuse anarchism with American style libertarianism. The two principles solidarity and mutual aid are not understood. Freedom is not freedom without those two principles IMO.
Edit: with > without (obviously, but still essential)
