Hey, pals! They dropped the list of the artists Midjourney has admitted to being ripping out!

Time to call your lawyers and sue the shit out of these thiefs!

Even if your name is not on the list you should rage at this billion dollars theft scheme.

We barely get to the end of the month while these criminals get billions and billions from investment firms!

Fuck Midjourney and their owners!

@Victor_el_DM 🤔 Why are there a bunch of old consoles / home computers of varying obscurity in that list?

@joepie91
The same reason there are writers like Neil Gaiman or Bob Kane: they didn't even cared about properly citing the visual artist they were ripping off!
So, if you see Commodore 64 you can be pretty sure they ripped off every cover artist they had.
Never underestimate the laziness of AI people! 😂

@Victor_el_DM @joepie91 that's great, so Neil Gaiman AND the shitload of artists he's worked with can sue

@hazelnot @joepie91
They are SOOOOO lazy they don't even care to detail witch artist they ripped off, just "Everything Sega 32X, Comodore Amiga, whatever!"

@hazelnot @joepie91 @Victor_el_DM my guess is this is a list of names that it categorized the art it studied (whether intentionally targeted or happened by in scraping) because part of the point of these tools is that you can say "in the style of commodore 64" or whatever. There's obviously no more specific creator name available for such stuff.

I'm surprised they have Walt Disney and not just Disney. Either way that means they're screwed, copying Disney is a death sentence

@joepie91 @Victor_el_DM

A short answer: I am betting there are a bunch of lawyers on this representing Midjourney who have said "that goes on the list."

A guess as to why: because they used their assets without permission, and by leaving them out, they might be liable for something later if discovered.

Especially since "Nintendo" is in the list. With "Switch." The _current_ Nintendo console.

Nintendo have been known to be VERY protective of their assets.

_IF_ Nintendo doesn't go after them, the way I understand "the reasoning for going after intellectual property violations with extreme measures," Nintendo could have future cases thrown out in some courts, because they didn't protect them in this case.

I am not a lawyer, this is just based on my, very basic, "why can't we have nice things" understanding of copyright laws and large corporations.

@Truck @joepie91 @Victor_el_DM yeah, weird that they put "FM-Towns Marty" of all things on that list (why not just FM-Towns itself lol)
