If someone gets asked not to do something by other community members, and responds by laughing at it and saying that he'll "do what he feels like"...
Ban them.
Doesn't matter if the person who asked them was "just another user". Doesn't matter if they're a productive contributor. Doesn't matter if they say they will listen to a moderator. Doesn't matter if it was just a small gripe. Ban them. Right away.
They are telling you that they have no respect for the well-being of other community members, and that this is a deliberate choice on their part.
There is no possible way in which they will ever be a positive addition to the community, unless they change that attitude. It will not magically improve over time. Waiting for them to offend "more obviously" will just harm a lot of people in the meantime.
Ban them. Do not let them return until they have rectified that attitude.

@joepie91 Meh I disagree. If I post a selfie for example, and someone tells me to not do that because they don't like it when I do it, even if it's properly tagged and everything, I don't see how the problem is with me.
This can be really easily used for racist/homophobic/transphobic harassment., if anything anyone on an instance doesn't like is an automatic ban

@hazelnot I'm very specifically describing a dismissive-by-default attitude, not just "disagreeing with the complaint" in general.

Sometimes the #complaint is just so over-the-top #ridiculous there's literally nothing you can do but #laugh about it. Being dismissive of such a thing is not an indicator that someone is a bad #community member - it just means they have common sense and no patience for presumptive Karen/Kevin-ing.
Consider the people who complain that @mattblaze should put his posts behind a CW, because they're ... black & white photographs.

@joepie91 Is it very specifically that? Because to me it read as just "if you disagree with anyone telling you not to do anything you should just be banned"
