Cabinet building project: success! Small custom cabinet on wheels for under a desk, as a practice project for eventually building some proper storage cabinets for the kitchen.
Managed to go from "base materials from hardware store" to "finished cabinet" in under 24 hours, which I consider an achievement given the ADHD factor :)
Tools used:
- Cordless drill for screws
- Drill press (could also have used the cordless drill instead, this was just slightly easier)
- Two right-angle clamps (can be done without, but these are 100% worth the money if you can afford it, even cheap ones)
- Paper template for knowing where to pre-drill the holes
- An iron, for laminating the exposed sides
- One of those cheapo 'vice tables', the foldable ones made of MDF
- Countersink drill
- Pneumatic nailgun for the backing (could likely be replaced with one of those very cheap spring-loaded staple guns, or even just hammering small nails manually)
Boards were cut to size at the hardware store; I'd say I spent about 19 EUR total on the boards + backing (really it was about 25 EUR, but I have quite some bits left over). The wheels alone cost more than that.
Used two screws per shelf per side; in hindsight, I should've probably used a third, or added some dowels. Wanted to use those cam lock nuts, but hardware store didn't have them, so just drilled into it from the outside and used plastic caps to cover up the screw heads.
So yeah, ended up not being too complex, and very much possible to replicate without a lot of tools!
