Every time I see a new attempt at selling something as "open-source" while subtly keeping a crucial component proprietary, I feel like "yeah, this is why commercial use should never have been considered a desirable or supported thing for FOSS"

@joepie91 literally my feeling about Gitlab lately. After my recent experience, the "we are OSS" part is so worthless that using Github doesn't make that much difference.

@joepie91 I call it "polite ransomware", and it was particularly rife about 10-15 years ago with VOIP telephone system distributions and audio/visual software for such things as radio station playout systems (slightly less so but only because they are upselling everyone to cloud services)
