Question: Aaaand the final recommendations request is a probably more tricky one...
I'm looking for "colony manager" style games (think along the lines of RimWorld) but that *aren't* about actual colonies, fighting natives, and so on, but rather about nurturing a healthy community. Something that *doesn't* encode expansionist values.
@joepie91 Mmmm possibly Wandering Village?
@joepie91 Is Terra Nil this? We don't know much about it, but.
I /think/ the premise is "you start in a barren wasteland and have to actually build an ecosystem"
@IceWolf Perhaps doesn't match the description to the letter, but certainly does seem to match the vibe :)
@joepie91 Ehhh... "Banished" is the only such city-builder I can think of, and it's a stretch. More pastoral than colonial, and it's not *strictly* expansionist, but reaching a sustainable equilibrium is tricky. I've never managed it. Certainly no combat though.
@joepie91@social.pixie.town Banished maybe? it's about travellers that build a city from nothing. there's no war in the game but a lot of people might die from cold/hunger/disease/… it gets incredibly hard if you expand too much.
@joepie91 I'm looking for similar, with a preference toward post-apoc settings, for the hopepunk aspect.
@joepie91 the wandering village would match this to a certain degree.
@joepie91 Have you seen Lakeburg Legacies? It's more about match-making your citizens and putting them in the right job than building and expanding.
@joepie91 Wandering Village, Lakeburg Legacy, As Far As The Eye and, not a colony sim but with great vibes, Roots Of Pacha!
@joepie91 Timberborn maybe?
Bonus round: something that's collaborative/community-driven, so not just FOSS but also actually inclusive and welcoming towards new contributors
(I'm not holding out much hope for this actually existing)
