Depressing to see people respond to "would you block a Facebook instance" with "it depends on their behaviour"

Like, if the past 10 years of overtly malicious behaviour - *literally* including screwing over another federated protocol - weren't enough data for you, exactly where does the bar lie?

@joepie91 Those with a wait-and-see attitude about a Facebook instance are thinking about the problem the wrong way around imo. It doesn’t matter what their stated policies or who their admins are - federated systems where people can escape advertising are against Facebook’s incentives. They couldn’t do anything but try and capture the whole network even if they wanted to.

@joepie91 See also their utter failure to moderate their own users which has resulted in actual deaths that they are currently being sued for.

@joepie91 even explicitly illegal shit. They have to be repeatedly fined with large sums to get them to amend their behavior. Can't even manage the bare minimum standard of not breaking privacy laws.
