NL politics, but in English

In case you missed it: the government has sent military police to intimidate climate protesters, as well as a water cannon, and seems to have started arresting people again

Oh look, one of the arrests was for, loosely translated, "offending a cop". Yes, that is a thing here.

Information is still trickling in, but at least this time it seems there's *less* of a gap between enforcement against climate protesters vs. fascist farmers.

@joepie91 always wondered why they do random arrests and like what happens when someone gets arrested for protesting. did they even do anything wrong in a law sense or is it just a scare tactic

re: NL politics, but in English

@j0 It's a way to break up the protest; they can legally arrest someone on a flimsy "suspicion", hold them overnight, then never actually charge them and release them the next day (or even the same evening) - but by that time the protest will have been completely killed off by the arrests.

They usually primarily focus on the most energetic protesters, who 'drive the vibe' so to say. For bonus points, they also get the fingerprints of everybody they've arrested, despite there being no charges.

@j0 (Of course it is also very useful for just generally intimidating protesters, to discourage them from joining the next one)
