@SallyStrange @aral no but people will put stuff on the internet, especially social media in plaintext and then complain that someone else does something with it that they don’t like.
My arguement is exactly that, don’t put anything on the internet that you don’t want an enemy finding without encrypting it end-to-end
@stephen @SallyStrange @aral ah! spoken like someone with no enemies
@eevee @SallyStrange @aral I have enemies, I do not post anything on a web or communication service that is not end-to-end encrypted, where I have verified that they are whom they say they are.
@joepie91 @eevee @SallyStrange @aral This is not abuser apologia, this is the lesson that I learnt from being abused.
So now I take steps to ensure my own safety online.
@stephen @eevee @SallyStrange@eldritch.cafe @aral And to be more specific about what I mean: you are making light of people complaining that "someone else does something with it that they don't like", as if that is somehow a ridiculous thing to do.
People are *correct* to complain about that. The problem here are not the people doing the complaining; the problem are the people doing the misuse.
@stephen @joepie91 @eevee @SallyStrange @aral Stephen, I've gotta say, you certainly have a lot of opinions about consent, and none of them stem from an understanding of the OP. Consider, perhaps, listening.
@joepie91 @eevee @SallyStrange @aral Not really, as if you don’t want to have your profile indexed you would have already had you profile marked as noindex which is the out of the box default.
So If you have permitted your profile to be indexed you have been offered additional methods to ensure that the site follows your wishes whilst allowing other sites to index it.
