It’s actually really entertaining watching a man light billions of his own dollars on fire while he claims that he is in fact doing no such thing.

Hey Siri, what’s the largest personal fortune ever lost?

Logged on again for about 5 minutes to see lots of people discussing more unhinged behavior by the narcissistic billionaire, and like…how is that service going to even last the rest of the year?

This dude is talking about trying to paywall the entire site? A site that requires massive engagement to have value…like this is galaxy brain level.

@AudreyJune I wouldn't be surprised if the whole thing folds in a week or two, because some system somewhere goes down and they fired the people responsible for making it not do that. Apparently nearly everyone they've begged to come back, has pretty much told them to "fuck off". Except for the H1B folks, who have no other choice...

The whole thing is eerily reminiscent of the downfall of Freenode, just at a much larger scale

@joepie91

The size and scale of this is the most astonishing part. Like, even before Mars Boy overpaid it was still a multi-billion dollar company with shares people were willing to hold.

This feels like if Michael Bloomberg bought NBC and scrapped the evening news and substituted it with him playing pit farts on a snare drum.

@AudreyJune Rationally it's not really surprising to me, because it's the inevitable and logical endpoint for a rich/powerful asshole with a can-do-no-wrong cult following behind it, but practically... yeah, it's still astonishing and almost feels surreal.

@joepie91 i am just used to so many giants in any space hitting an inflection point that most people barely notice, declining somewhat and getting overtaken by a new giant and then slowly withering away.

Like Blockbuster or Sears.

laughing at the birdsite

@AudreyJune Ah, but the difference there is that they're run into the ground by disinterested rich folks with more money than sense, and who mainly need a place to stash their debts. Elon probably genuinely *cares*, but still doesn't really have any sense, and that makes it much more explosive! :p

If nothing else, I guess we get some once-in-a-lifetime entertainment out of something that was doomed to fail.

laughing at the birdsite

@AudreyJune (Well, technically Twitter could still survive by being sold for pennies on the dollar fast enough that people haven't emotionally detached from the platform yet, Yahoo-style. But with how stubborn Musk is, I don't really see that happening...)

laughing at the birdsite

@joepie91 yeah, it’s going to be worthless by the time he is done with it, given the current trajectory.

Follow

laughing at the birdsite

@AudreyJune The trajectory is certainly easy to plot :D
